A2Z activities in the West Bank focus on food fortification. The project is addressing the following constraints:
- Lack of systematic monitoring of fortified foods to ensure that they are appropriate for meeting dietary gaps
- Lack of consumer awareness of the availability and appropriate use of fortified foods
A subcontract was signed with the American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA) to begin implementation of a micronutrient program in the West Bank, mainly focused on industry-supported interventions. The aim of the project is to strengthen the wheat flour fortification initiative, including supervision and monitoring and evaluation. The project will also assess the potential and readiness of the Palestinian food industries to manufacture fortified complementary foods.
